Open Food Facts
A massive portion of our product barcode data, taxonomies, and Eco-Score formulas are sourced from the Open Food Facts project, a collaborative, free, and open database of food products from around the world.

Our "Tier-2" fallback image processing and OCR pipeline is powered by a multi-modal AI router utilizing Google's Gemini Vision APIs, Meta's Llama 3.2 Vision (via Cloudflare Workers AI), and NVIDIA's Nemotron models (via OpenRouter). Nutri-Score
The Nutri-Score logo and calculation system are the intellectual property of Santé Publique France (the French Public Health Agency). UnwrapTruth uses the Nutri-Score algorithm for informational and educational purposes.
NOVA Classification
The NOVA food classification system was developed by researchers at the University of São Paulo. Our NOVA processing heuristic is inspired by their classification guidelines.
Direct Photo OCR (No-Barcode Mode)
The Direct Ingredient Photo OCR feature (/scan-label) uses the same multi-modal AI router (Gemini, Llama Vision, Nemotron) to transcribe physical food labels without a barcode. Image data is processed ephemerally in real-time and is never stored on our servers. Analysis accuracy may vary based on lighting conditions, label curvature, and image resolution; always verify results against the physical packaging.
My Clean Pantry (Offline Storage)
The My Clean Pantry (/pantry) and scan history features use your browser's built-in localStorage API exclusively. No pantry data, favorites list, or scan history is transmitted to or stored on UnwrapTruth servers. You maintain 100% private, on-device custody of this data at all times.
